The 1980s
This is a collection of my early art work that somehow survived numerous house moves.
Pollution 1980. Colour pencils. Unbelievable and sad that this 1980 picture of mine is just as relevant in 2025. Now it would be called climate change.

The Denim Jacket on the back of the chair. March 1984 graphite drawing. I gave this to my best friend of 52 years Julie, who liked it! It is still up in her home and survived her numerous house moves. Was great to be able to have a photo of it for this site after all these years. The chair was a garish orange, green and brown that was the height of fashion in the 1970s when it was purchased.

The colour still life. February 1984, graphite drawing and water soluble colour pencils. We were practicing ellipses .

The black and white still life. February 1984, graphite drawing. Working on reflections.

Decisions 1984 colour pencils. Some cross over from the Pollution work from 4 years earlier depicting some tough stuff. Lots of teenage angst here.

Just found these from the 1970s!
Paint along with Nancy Kominsky ITV television 1974 - 1978 daytime in school holidays. Anyone remember? She used oils and a palate knife. I used whatever paint we had and the butter knife from the kitchen drawer!
Waves and Watermelon probably 1978. Reminds me of "I carried a watermelon" a great film.

The 1984 onwards
In 1984 I got a job that turned into a career, in which I stayed in for 40 years. Time to put away the art for very many years.
I dabbled a bit to get some feelings down in colour from 2010 onwards, in abstract form, but I lacked the skills/ techniques to really express myself.
I think there may always be an abstract element to my work. Although I now wonder if I adopted an abstract style purely because I did not know how to do anything else? Time will tell.
A recent visit to The Tate Modern and Tate Britain in April 2025 revealed that perhaps most modern art has now moved beyond my interest. I expected to prefer Tate modern as I always did, but in 2025 I didn't. The modern art I loved in the 1980s- 2000 is now part of Art history.
Black 2021 This is a doodle which represented my feelings on Black Friday advertising. I was clearly still abstract focussed at this point. It was done during the pandemic.
