Building up an acrylic painting - my learning.
Coffee and messy work station are essential for acrylic painting. Also, I have learned, when in doubt, add burnt umber and yellow ochre and it will turn out ok🤞

A keep wet palate for acrylics is so important. It can be closed up at the end of the day and it preserves your paint and any mixed shades for weeks. I use a small one so add a paper palate alongside on the lid for extra mixing.

Stage 1. The messy ugly initial underpainting. A bit of what goes where in the composition.

Stage 2. Starting to plan what the sky will look like and beginning to shape the lake.

Stage 3. Marking out and giving some shape to the trees and the mountains. It is still quite separate sections, next stage will be attempting to join it up, look at where the light is coming from, shadows etc.

Stage 4. I don't like those trees, I realised I painted them from my head and did not study the scene enough.. The beauty of using acrylics is that you can simply paint them out and then repaint them.

Stage 5. I can't see the wood for the trees. Will have another look tomorrow.

Stage 6. finally complete. Lots of bringing colours together and trying to show the light.

If anyone prefers this painting at stage 3 probably best not to mention it.
